About Us
Our Story
SCCUL Enterprises CLG was established in 2002 to help prevent and alleviate poverty and distress in Galway city and county and to support the least privileged groups in our community. SCCUL Enterprises CLG founded the SCCUL Sanctuary to help them in this task.
We run tailored therapeutic retreat days for community groups and members of the public who are living with serious health conditions or facing difficult life challenges. These are delivered both online and offline.
The SCCUL Sanctuary story began in 2012. In the early days, we rented premises in Galway city and at the Irish Pilgrimage Trust centre in Kilcuan to provide these therapeutic support days. Due to the growing demand for our services, we identified a need to have our own space. In late 2015, the Sanctuary entered a long-term lease agreement with the Brothers of Charity in Kilcornan. After extensive refurbishment and investment, the SCCUL Sanctuary moved into its new home at Bungalow 9 in December 2016.
Situated in a tranquil woodland setting, the building has been beautifully refurbished to a high standard. The Sanctuary boasts bright, modern and south-facing rooms which overlook the green fields, woodlands and our very own sensory and spiritual gardens. The Sanctuary is fully wheelchair accessible.
We have developed our workshops to reach those in need of help and emotional support. These workshops help to improve a person’s well-being to gain new perspectives and connect with others facing similar challenges.
